I've been meaning to extol the virtues of Codebar for a while so this post has been a long time coming. Honestly, I can't rate the concept, tutors, learning, enthusiam and generosity of this initiative highly enough. And I haven't even mentioned the pizza!
Codebar is a free weekly workshop that aims to provide a safe and collaborative environment for people to learn code – especically those underrepresented in tech. It had humble beginnings back in London four years ago but has since expanded and now includes 15 local chapters – from Belfast to Berlin.
But more than all this, I've met awesome people. Clever, kind, funny, interesting, quirky, engaging, generous and incredibly talented people.
Codebar runs through the support of various local tech businesses who host the evenings as well as provide the pizza, through the generosity of its tutors who offer their time and experience and through the dedication of its organisers – Rosa, Dot, Cassie, Alice and Ryan. And I can't forget Charlotte, who recently left for Oz. I won't be surprised if we see a Sydney branch popping up soon.
So. To Codebar – and especially Codebar Brighton – thank you.
And to those of you thinking about coming, as a student or tutor, do it. You'll get a warm welcome – and some free pizza!
